1. American Government - This one-semester course examines the origin, development, structure, and operations of all levels of government in the United States. Included in this course will be an intensive examination of the primary institutions of government and a critical analysis of changing aspects of traditional relationships among the institutions of executive, legislative and judicial at all levels. Emphasis will be placed on critical thinking and communicative skills such as hypothesis formation, data gathering, and analytical questioning in dealing with the subject matter of the course. This course meets the University of California “a” and “g” requirements. 12
–> im 2. Halbjahr: Economics - This one-semester course examines the principles of economic analysis, economic institutions, and issuesof public policy. The course will include allocation of resources, distribution of income, money and banking, economics, as well as practical applications to consumer economics. The student will be expected to explore various conflicting theories of economic thought. This course meets the University of California “g” requirement. 12
2. English Shakespeare - This two-semester course covers Shakespeare’s plays. Field trips and guest speakers may be used to add depth. This course meets the University of California “b” and “g” requirements. 12
3. Combi Class aus World Language French 1/2 International Baccalaureate SL - This is a college level two-semester course intended for 11th and 12th grade students. The goal of the class is to develop the reading, writing, oral and listening skills of the IB French students so they are prepared for the IB Examination-Standard Level. This course will draw from the following three themes: exploring change; exploring groups; and exploring leisure. Students will read, view, and discuss literature, current journals, Internet sites, newspapers, textbooks, and television news programs. This course meets the University of California “e” requirement. Students taking this course are expected to take the Standard Level French IB test in May for a fee. Prerequisite: French 5C/6C or French 5H/6H, 12
und World Language French 3/4 International Baccalaureate HL2* - This two-semester college level course focuses on advanced conversation, reading, and grammar. This course reflects a more advanced and intense study in French. Students taking this course are expected to take the Higher Level French IB test in May for a fee. Prerequisite: French 5C/6C or French 5H/6H, 12
4. Oceanography - This two-semester course offers units in the following areas: ocean ecology, plant and animal life, physical oceanography, and the seas in relationship to man. Field trips, guest speakers, lab experiments, and group participation will be emphasized. This course meets the UC “d” and “g” requirements. Prerequisite: Prior completion of Life and Physical Science Graduation Requirement. 11, 12
5. Math Pre-Calculus IC - This two-semester course is designed primarily to extend the student’s knowledge and skills in advanced algebra prior to taking more advanced work in calculus and modern algebra. Course content includes polynomial, exponential, logarithmic, and circular and trigonometric functions, sequences and series, limits and continuity, induction, the binomial theorem, matrices, and logic. This course meets the University of California “c” and “g” requirements. Prerequisite: Algebra IIC with “C” grade or better or teacher recommendation, 11, 12
oder ist dieser besser: Calculus IC This two-semester course is designed for college preparatory students. This is a “nontraditional” calculus
course designed for students who intend to be Business or Life Science majors. This course does not fully prepare the student for the Advanced Placement Examination. The course content includes, but is not limited to, analytic geometry, graphing techniques, limits and continuity, the derivative, differentiation and anti differentiation, and the definite integral. This course meets the University of California “c” and “g” requirements. Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus Mathematics IC-1, 2 or Pre-Calculus Mathematics IH-1, 2., 11, 12???
6. Photography 1/2 - This two-semester laboratory course covers the fundamentals of the art and technique of black and white photography. Students learn to use various types of cameras, from 35mm to digital, as they take their own photographs, develop film, and print their own pictures in the photography-enlarging lab. Areas that may be covered include studio and product photography, digital photography, special effects in the camera, photo lab or on the computer, and image retouching. Students develop an aesthetic appreciation of photography through the introduction of principles of composition and elements of design. The historical and cultural context of photography is investigated and career opportunities are presented. Photography meets the Fine Arts graduation requirement and the UC “f” VPA requirement. Student must provide a manual 35 mm camera. 11, 12
